National Walk at Lunch Day is in April

Put a spring in your step on April 27th and celebrate National Walk at Lunch Day.  Take some time during lunch to get outside for a 20-30 minute walk with a friend or co-worker.  Who knows, it might even become a new habit you decide to do! Walking is one of the easiest and simplest types of exercise.  And, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) it is the most popular form of exercise.  All it requires is a pair of comfortable, stable sneakers.  Walking is a great, low-impact, leisurely aerobic activity with little risk of injury or strain.  Walking daily can be beneficial in the following ways:

  • Reduces risk of heart disease
  • Reduces blood pressure
  • Boosts good cholesterol (HDL)
  • Eases back pain
  • Increases endorphins (feel-good hormone)
  • Helps you to maintain a healthy weight
  • Strengthens bones
  • Improves circulation
  • Reduces stress
